Joe Pye Weed is a tall native wildflower that forms impressive clumps with clusters of mauve-pink flowers in late summer. This moisture-loving perennial creates a bold statement in the landscape and provides excellent late-season color when many other plants are fading.

In an HOA neighborhood

Eupatoire Maculée takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very tall height may appear unkempt in formal settings
  • Common name includes 'weed' which raises HOA concerns
  • Can look sparse and stick-like when dormant in winter

Wildlife value

Attracts numerous butterflies, bees, and moths with its nectar-rich flowers that bloom from July through September. Seeds provide food for birds in fall and winter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
