How to Apply for Boston, Massachusetts Water Rebates

Get BWSC sign-off and any required permits before you build. Grants offset project costs; credits cut up to 40% off your stormwater charge. Rain gardens with native plants qualify.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Confirm eligibility and review samples

Make sure you are a BWSC stormwater customer in Boston, then review the sample grant and credit applications on the program page to understand the requirements.

Open the BWSC program page (opens in new tab)
  2. 2

    Permit and apply

Obtain any local, state, and federal permits the project needs, then submit the correct DocuSign application. Use the new-practice form for a project you have not built yet.

  3. 3

    Build the approved practice

Install the rain garden, bioswale, or permeable pavement after BWSC review. Plant rain gardens with native species that support stormwater management.

  4. 4

    Submit and receive funding

Submit your documentation to receive the grant toward project costs and the ongoing credit on your stormwater charge. Contact the stormwater team at 617-989-7899 or stormwaterinfo@bwsc.org with questions.

BWSC review and permits come before construction. Choosing the right application form and a native planting plan are what most people miss.
