How to Apply for Irvine, California Water Rebates
Wait for your Letter to Proceed before removing grass. $3 per sq ft (250 sq ft minimum, 5,000 sq ft maximum), plus $100 per tree up to 5 trees. Artificial turf is not eligible.

Reserve and wait for your Letter to Proceed
Apply through the MWDOC droplet portal with photos of your existing turf. Do not remove any grass until you receive your written Letter to Proceed. You can also call 714-593-5036 or email turfremoval@mwdoc.com with questions.

Plan your water-efficient landscape
Design a conversion between 250 and 5,000 square feet with water-efficient, climate-appropriate plants. Free landscape design assistance is available. Add up to 5 trees if you want the $100 per tree bonus. No artificial turf.

Install and document
Remove the turf, install the landscaping, and take after photos. Fall planting is recommended. Keep itemized receipts.

Submit and get paid
Submit your after photos and documentation to receive $3 per square foot plus $100 per tree.
MWDOC reserves funds when you apply, so apply before you start. The Letter to Proceed is what you wait on, and removing grass before it arrives disqualifies the project.
