How to Apply for Washington, District of Columbia Water Rebates

Get pre-construction inspection and approval before you build. $41 per sq ft up to $3,000. Gardens use a 1 to 10 ratio of garden area to impervious area and Chesapeake Bay watershed natives.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Submit the application packet

Send the rebate application packet, including a design sketch and percolation test worksheet, to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Do not start construction yet.

Open the rain garden rebate page
  2. 2

    Get pre-construction approval

A pre-construction inspection confirms your site and design. Build only after you have written approval, using Chesapeake Bay watershed native plants at the 1 to 10 ratio.

  3. 3

    Submit for reimbursement

After the garden is built and passes post-construction approval, submit before photos, the itemized invoice, and the maintenance agreement. The check follows in roughly two to six weeks.

Funding is first-come and limited, and approval has to come before you dig. Get the packet in early.
