How to Apply for Washington, District of Columbia Water Rebates
Get pre-construction inspection and approval before you build. $4.10 per sq ft of roof area captured, up to $3,000. The garden must be at least 40 sq ft, capture at least 400 sq ft of roof, and use Chesapeake Bay watershed natives. Funding is open as of October 2026.

Submit the application packet
Send the rebate application packet, including a design sketch and percolation test worksheet, to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Do not start construction yet.

Get pre-construction approval
A pre-construction inspection confirms your site and design. Build only after you have written approval, using Chesapeake Bay watershed native plants at the approved size.

Submit for reimbursement
After the garden is built and passes post-construction approval, submit before photos, the itemized invoice, and the maintenance agreement. The check follows in roughly two to six weeks.
Funding is first-come and open as of October 2026, and approval has to come before you dig. Get the packet in early.
