Umbellate aster is a tall native perennial that produces clusters of small white daisy-like flowers from summer through early fall. This upright plant forms neat clumps and provides excellent late-season color when many other flowers are fading. It thrives in partial sun with average moisture and requires minimal care once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Umbellate Aster is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 3 out of 5.

Works well in: mid zone, foundation, backyard only.

  • Height may exceed some HOA plant size preferences
  • Can look bare in early spring before emerging

Wildlife value

Host plant for pearl crescent butterfly.

The abundant white flowers attract a diverse array of pollinators including native bees, butterflies, and beetles during the critical late summer blooming period. Seeds provide food for birds in fall and winter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
