FL

Fraxinus biltmoreana is a large native shade tree that reaches 30-60 feet tall with a broad, rounded canopy. It produces small clusters of flowers in spring before the leaves emerge and drops its foliage in winter.

In an HOA neighborhood

American Ash is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: moderate. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, street edge, mid zone.

  • Very large mature size may overwhelm smaller lots
  • Seasonal leaf drop requires fall cleanup

Wildlife value

The flowers attract small native bees and other pollinators in early spring. The seeds provide food for birds, and the large canopy offers nesting sites and shelter for various wildlife species.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
