Tennessee Water Rebates

Chattanooga, Tennessee Water Rebates

The pieces stack to up to $5,000 total: rain gardens up to $2,000, native SupportScapes plantings at 75% of cost up to $1,000, rain barrels at $50 each for up to 10 barrels, and streambank restoration. A SupportScape replaces turf and invasives with native plants. You have to apply and get approval before you start, and the program comes with a five-year maintenance agreement.

How to apply

  1. Confirm you live within Chattanooga city limits and are current on stormwater fees and property taxes
  2. Apply at mywaterways.org/rainsmart-yards before starting any work
  3. Wait for approval and confirmation of your project scope
  4. Install the rain garden or SupportScape (7+ native species, 15+ specimens) and any rain barrels
  5. Sign the five-year Homeowner Agreement and submit documentation to receive your rebate

What you'll need

  • Proof of Chattanooga residency within city limits
  • Confirmation you are current on stormwater fees and property taxes
  • Approved project application and scope
  • Plant list showing 7+ native species and 15+ specimens for a SupportScape
  • Signed Homeowner Agreement and itemized receipts

Pollinator Patch can help: It picks Cumberland Plateau and Ridge and Valley natives that meet the seven-species SupportScape rule, designs an HOA-friendly layout, and builds the plant list and photo packet for your application.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Don't start before approval. Starting work before the application is confirmed is the most common reason rebates get denied.
  • Don't shortcut the SupportScape plant count. A qualifying native planting needs at least 7 distinct species and 15 or more specimens.
  • Don't skip the maintenance agreement. The five-year commitment is part of the rebate.
