Colorado Water Rebates
Grand Junction, Colorado Water Rebates
The City of Grand Junction Utilities pays $2 per square foot to convert high-water grass to low-water plants, or $1 per square foot to convert it to low-water grass or groundcover. Residential living turf areas of 300 to 2,000 square feet qualify, and the program is funded by a Colorado Water Conservation Board grant. The detail most people miss: a Water Conservation Specialist has to confirm live turf and approve the project before you remove any high-water grass, and rock-only conversions do not count.
$2 / sq ft
Waterwise Lawn Program
Open the official program siteHow to apply
- Confirm you are a City of Grand Junction water customer in the service area
- Schedule a consultation with the Water Conservation team to confirm live turf
- Complete the Waterwise Lawn Application with required documents and get approval before removing grass
- Convert 300 to 2,000 sq ft of high-water grass to low-water plants (no rock-only)
- Coordinate the final inspection to receive $2 per sq ft (plants) or $1 per sq ft (grass)
What you'll need
- City of Grand Junction water account information
- Before photos confirming live high-water turf
- Completed Waterwise Lawn Application
- Planting plan or plant list
- After photos for the final inspection
Pollinator Patch can help: It picks Grand Junction-appropriate Colorado natives for the Western Slope, designs an HOA-friendly planted layout that avoids the rock-only trap, and assembles your application and before-photo packet.
Avoid these mistakes
- Don't remove or abandon high-water grass before the Water Conservation Specialist confirms live turf and approves the project.
- Don't replace the lawn with rock. The program does not pay for rock-only conversions and requires low-water plants.
- Don't apply for a property that was already converted. Previously converted areas do not qualify.
