How to Get the Individual Residential Stormwater Credit Rebate

What you get

An ongoing credit on the ERU portion of the stormwater fee (not a one-time rebate): 10% per stormwater control measure, up to a 20% cap, for practices including rain gardens (a rain garden needs at least 25% of roof/impervious area draining to it). Open to owners of developed properties within the city; credit applies to the applicant only (City of Decatur; last verified June 2026).

• Be a City of Decatur, Illinois customer
• Property located in: Decatur
• Own a developed property within Decatur city limits
• Rain garden (or other SCM); 25% of impervious area drains to a rain garden
• SCMs cannot be combined past the 20% cap

   Apply and get written approval first

   Submit your application to City of Decatur, Illinois and wait for written approval before you remove any turf or start work. Starting early is the most common reason a rebate is denied.
