Utah Water Rebates

Utah (statewide), Utah Water Rebates

Utah Water Savers is the statewide portal that runs the Landscape Incentive Program for more than 60 participating communities. It pays up to $3 per square foot to replace lawn with water-efficient landscaping, with the exact rate set by your city, generally between $1.50 and $3.00. Park strips, side yards, and full front-yard conversions all qualify. You apply at utahwatersavers.com, and a conservation technician has to inspect your living lawn before you remove anything. Free ready-made Localscapes designs are available at localscapes.com.

How to apply

  1. Confirm your city participates and check its per-square-foot rate
  2. Register on utahwatersavers.com and add your property
  3. Submit your application with yard photos and a landscape plan unique to your property
  4. Pass the conservation technician pre-project inspection before removing any grass
  5. Finish within one year, request the final site visit, and submit a W-9 to get paid

What you'll need

  • Proof of residency in a participating city
  • Before photos of the living, maintained lawn
  • Landscape plan unique to your property
  • After photos and itemized receipts
  • Completed IRS W-9

Pollinator Patch can help: It picks region-appropriate Utah natives, designs an HOA-friendly layout you can submit as your unique property plan, and assembles your before-photo packet for the inspection.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Don't remove your lawn before the pre-project inspection. Starting early disqualifies the project.
  • Don't apply on a neglected lawn. The grass must be living and maintained at inspection. Dormant lawn still qualifies.
  • Don't let the project run past one year from approval, and confirm your city's rate before you plan the budget.

Utah (statewide) Water Rebate FAQs

How much does the Utah Water Savers program pay to remove a lawn?
Up to $3 per square foot to replace lawn with water-efficient landscaping, with the exact rate set by your city (Utah Water Savers Landscape Incentive Program, verified June 2026).
Can I remove my lawn first and apply later?
No. You must have living, maintained grass at the time you apply and at the first inspection, and a conservation technician inspects it before work begins. Removing it first disqualifies the project.
Do I need a professional landscape design?
No. The plan you submit must be unique to your property, but a professional design is not required. Free Localscapes designs are available at localscapes.com.
How long do I have to finish?
You have one year to complete the project after approval. Dormant lawn is eligible at application, but neglected lawn is not.
