How to Apply for Grand Junction, Colorado Water Rebates

Get approval before removing any high-water grass. $2 per sq ft to low-water plants, $1 per sq ft to low-water grass. Residential turf of 300 to 2,000 sq ft qualifies. Rock-only conversions do not count.

Application Steps

  1. 1

    Schedule a consultation first

Contact the Water Conservation team to schedule a consultation. A specialist has to confirm live high-water turf and approve the project before you remove or abandon any grass.

Open the Waterwise Lawn Program page
  2. 2

    Apply and get approval

Complete the Waterwise Lawn Application with the required documents and receive approval before removing any high-water grass. Residential living turf of 300 to 2,000 square feet qualifies.

  3. 3

    Convert to low-water plants

Replace the high-water grass with low-water plants (native pollinator plants, fire-resistant species, trees, or low-water grass and groundcover). The program does not pay for rock-only conversions.

  4. 4

    Inspect and get paid

Coordinate the final inspection to receive $2 per square foot for low-water plants or $1 per square foot for low-water grass or groundcover. Grant funds are limited, so confirm availability.

Grand Junction funds the program with a state grant that runs until exhausted, and a specialist confirms live turf before approval. The pre-approval and no-rock-only rules are what trip most people up.
