How to Apply for Rio Rancho, New Mexico Water Rebates
Call the Water Conservation Office for pre-approval before you start. $1 per sq ft water bill credit on real grass removed. At least 250 sq ft of real grass has to be in place at pre-approval. Artificial turf does not count.

Get pre-approval first
Call the Rio Rancho Water Conservation Office at 505-896-8715 or 505-896-8737 for pre-approval before you start. At least 250 square feet of real grass has to still be in place when they inspect.

Pass the pre-approval inspection
The Water Conservation Office confirms the real grass area before any removal. Pre-existing low-water-use landscapes do not qualify.

Convert to xeriscape
Remove the real grass turf and install xeriscape. Artificial turf is not eligible. Take before and after photos and keep receipts.

Submit and get the credit
Submit your application and receipts within the program deadline to receive the $1 per square foot credit on your water bill.
Pre-approval comes first, and the inspector has to see at least 250 sq ft of real grass still in place. Removing it early is the most common disqualifier.
