New Mexico Rebates

New Mexico Native Landscaping Rebates

Albuquerque's ABCWUA xeriscape rebate ($3/sq ft) is the strongest residential turf conversion program in New Mexico. Santa Fe and Las Cruces offer irrigation efficiency rebates. For the rest of the state, NMSU Extension provides planting guidance by ecoregion.

The quick version

  • Albuquerque ABCWUA: $3/sq ft for converting turf to xeriscape with drip irrigation. Over 600 approved plant species.
  • Pre-approval and an initial inspection are required. Allow 3+ weeks for scheduling. Six months to complete.
  • Santa Fe: waterwise rebates for rain barrels, cisterns, soil sensors, and smart controllers — not a turf rebate.

How to apply for New Mexico rebates

  1. 1.Apply for pre-approval before you start. Starting work first is the most common reason applications get denied.
  2. 2.Take before photos of the area you plan to convert, then matching after photos from the same angles once the work is done.
  3. 3.Apply early in the fiscal year. Many programs are first-come, first-served. Each program below links to the provider for current rules. See our step-by-step lawn replacement guide.
