How to Get the Xeriscape Rebate

What you get

Water bill credit of $1/sq ft of real grass turf removed and replaced with xeriscape (minimum 250 sq ft of real grass in place at pre-approval). Artificial turf not eligible (City of Rio Rancho Outdoor Rebates, last verified June 2026).

• Pre-approval required before starting (Water Conservation Office)
• At least 250 sq ft of real grass at pre-approval
• Application + receipt within 90 days

   Apply and get written approval first

   Submit your application to City of Rio Rancho and wait for written approval before you remove any turf or start work. Starting early is the most common reason a rebate is denied.

   Replace your lawn with the qualifying landscaping, following the eligibility requirements above.

   Submit your claim

   After the work is done, submit your claim on the official program page. Confirm the exact forms, receipts, and any photos they require there, since those vary by program.
