How to Apply for Salt Lake City, Utah Water Rebates
Salt Lake City residents receive $2 per square foot for lawn-to-xeriscape conversions (min 200 sq ft, max $50,000) through the Utah Division of Water Resources. Pre-approval is required before removing any lawn. Apply at utahwatersavers.com.

Create an account and submit an application at utahwatersavers.com before starting
Go to utahwatersavers.com and create an account. Select the Utah Division of Water Resources Landscape Incentive Program for Salt Lake City. Complete the application with your property address, planned conversion square footage, and proposed plant list. Do not remove or kill any lawn until you receive written pre-approval.

Schedule and complete the pre-conversion site visit
After submitting the application, a program representative will contact you to schedule a pre-conversion site visit. The inspector will confirm the existing lawn area, measure the planned conversion zone, and verify the lawn is living and well-maintained. Written approval follows the visit.

Convert the lawn and install water-wise landscaping
After receiving written pre-approval, remove the qualifying lawn and install drought-tolerant plants, drip irrigation, and mulch per your approved plan. Photograph the area before and after. Keep all receipts for plants, materials, and contractor work.

Request a post-conversion inspection and receive your rebate
Contact the program through utahwatersavers.com to schedule the post-conversion inspection. The inspector will measure the converted area, verify plant coverage and species, and confirm drip irrigation if applicable. After the inspection passes, the $2/sq ft rebate is processed.
