A large, evergreen, rosette-forming succulent perennial with broad, stiff, fibrous blue-green leaves edged with curling thread-like filaments. Tall, dramatic flower stalks rise well above the foliage in summer, bearing clusters of pale cream, night-opening flowers. Extremely drought tolerant, thriving in full sun and well-drained soil.

In an HOA neighborhood

Giant hesperaloe takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: foundation, mid zone, backyard only.

  • leaf margins bear coarse curling fibers that can catch on clothing
  • flower stalks can reach considerable height and may need clearance from structures

Wildlife value
