Arizona Water Rebates

Peoria, Arizona Water Rebates

The City of Peoria runs a Xeriscape Conversion Rebate that pays up to $3,000 to replace high-water grass with low-water desert plants. The conversion area has to be at least 500 square feet, or include all of your remaining grass. Plants come from the AMWUA Plant List or the most recent ADWR Phoenix AMA Low Water Use Plant List. The higher rebate tier requires 50% plant canopy coverage at maturity. Schedule a pre-consultation before you start.

How to apply

  1. Confirm you are a City of Peoria water utility customer
  2. Schedule a pre-consultation with Peoria Water Conservation before removing grass
  3. Pick plants from the AMWUA or ADWR Phoenix AMA low-water-use list
  4. Convert at least 500 sq ft of grass to desert plants
  5. Submit after photos showing 50% canopy coverage at maturity (or 25% for the lesser amount) to receive up to $3,000

What you'll need

  • City of Peoria water account number
  • Before photos of the existing grass
  • Plant list from the AMWUA or ADWR Phoenix AMA list
  • After photos showing canopy coverage at maturity
  • Itemized receipts

Pollinator Patch can help: It picks Peoria-appropriate desert plants from the AMWUA and ADWR Phoenix AMA low-water-use lists, designs an HOA-friendly layout that hits the 50% canopy target, and assembles your plant-list and before-photo packet.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Don't install artificial turf in the removal area. It is not eligible and disqualifies the rebate.
  • Don't skip the pre-consultation. Schedule it before you remove any grass.
  • Don't pick plants off-list. They have to come from the AMWUA or ADWR Phoenix AMA low-water-use list, and you need 50% canopy at maturity for the full amount.

Peoria Water Rebate FAQs

How much does Peoria pay to convert grass to xeriscape?
Up to $3,000 to convert at least 500 square feet of high-water grass to low-water plants from the AMWUA or ADWR Phoenix AMA low-water-use list (City of Peoria, verified June 2026).
Does artificial turf qualify?
No. Peoria is strictly for conversion to desert plants. Installing artificial turf in the removal area disqualifies you from the rebate.
What plants can I use?
Plants must come from the AMWUA Plant List or the most recent ADWR Phoenix AMA Low Water Use Plant List, and 50% or more of your total landscaping must be xeriscape.
What does the canopy coverage requirement mean?
The full rebate needs photos showing 50% plant canopy coverage at maturity. A minimum of 25% canopy at maturity earns a lesser rebate amount.
