How to Get the RainScapes Rewards: Conservation Landscaping Rebate

What you get

$5 per square foot for conservation landscaping (replacing lawn/invasive plants with native plants). $6/sq ft with 3 inches of ponding (250 sq ft minimum). Also covers rain gardens, green roofs, permeable pavement, and pavement removal. Max $7,500 residential, $20,000 commercial.

Are you eligible?

• Be a Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection customer
• Property located in: Bethesda, Silver Spring, Germantown, Potomac
• Must own property in Montgomery County (outside Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Takoma Park)
• Pre-approval required before installation
• Funding first-come, first-served
• Applicants assigned a planner within 2-4 weeks

   Apply and get written approval first

   Submit your application to Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and wait for written approval before you remove any turf or start work. Starting early is the most common reason a rebate is denied.

   Do the conversion

   Replace your lawn with the qualifying landscaping, following the eligibility requirements above.

   Submit your claim

   After the work is done, submit your claim on the official program page. Confirm the exact forms, receipts, and any photos they require there, since those vary by program.
