SoCal Water$mart Rebates: Southern California

SoCal Water$mart is the Metropolitan Water District base rebate for turf replacement across Southern California. $2 per square foot base (up to 5,000 sq ft), plus $100 per tree (max 5 trees). This stacks with local agency rebates: LADWP adds $3/sq ft for up to $5/sq ft total ($25,000 max). San Diego County adds a native plant bonus. IRWD offers $2/sq ft for residential customers. Apply through the SoCal Water$mart portal.

How to apply

  1. Confirm MWD eligibility. Check with your water provider. LA, San Diego, Irvine, Riverside, San Bernardino typically qualify.
  2. Get pre-approval. Apply at socalwatersmart.com before removing turf.
  3. Complete work. Remove turf, install California Friendly or native plants. Save receipts and photos.
  4. Submit for inspection. Follow SoCal Water$mart portal process. Local agency may have additional steps.
