Arizona Water Rebates

Surprise, Arizona Water Rebates

The City of Surprise Water Conservation program pays single-family water customers $2 per square foot of turf removed, up to $2,000, to replace grass with low-water landscaping. The Water Conservation Office has to approve your eligibility before you remove anything. Single-family projects need at least 500 square feet of warm-season Bermuda removed, or full removal if the area is smaller than 500 square feet.

$2 / sq ft, up to $2,000

How to apply

  1. Confirm you are a single-family City of Surprise water customer
  2. Contact the Water Conservation Office and apply for pre-eligibility before touching the turf
  3. Wait for written approval of your project
  4. Remove the grass and install low-water landscaping
  5. Submit after photos and documentation to receive $2 per sq ft, up to $2,000

What you'll need

  • City of Surprise water account number
  • Before photos of the existing turf and measured square footage
  • Pre-eligibility approval confirmation
  • After photos of the finished landscaping
  • Itemized receipts

Pollinator Patch can help: It picks Surprise-appropriate Sonoran Desert natives for the West Valley, designs an HOA-friendly low-water layout that meets the conversion requirement, and assembles your before-photo and plant-list packet.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Don't remove any grass before the Water Conservation Office approves your pre-eligibility. Starting early disqualifies the project.
  • Don't apply on a single-family removal under 500 sq ft unless you remove all of the turf in that area.
  • Don't assume artificial turf qualifies. The program is built around converting to low-water landscaping, so confirm material rules with the Conservation Office first.
