Hulsea algida is a compact alpine perennial that forms low mounds of foliage topped with bright yellow daisy-like flowers during summer months. This drought-tolerant native thrives in full sun and rocky soils, making it well-suited for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. Its small stature and tidy growth habit make it ideal for rock gardens or as edging along pathways.

In an HOA neighborhood

Alpine Gold is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The bright yellow flowers attract native bees and beneficial flies during the summer blooming period. Its alpine nature provides nectar sources for pollinators in challenging mountain environments.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
