Australian saltbush is a compact evergreen shrub with silvery-gray foliage that creates a neat, mounded form. It thrives in poor soils and requires minimal water once established, making it an excellent low-maintenance groundcover or accent plant. The small inconspicuous flowers appear from late spring through fall.

In an HOA neighborhood

Australian Saltbush is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

This plant provides minimal wildlife value as it produces small, wind-pollinated flowers that don't attract significant pollinators. However, the dense foliage may provide some shelter for small wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
