Baldwin's nailwort is a tiny native groundcover that forms dense, low mats of small silvery-green leaves. This compact perennial produces clusters of small white flowers from spring through fall and thrives in sandy, well-drained soils with minimal water.

In an HOA neighborhood

Baldwin's Nailwort takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Extremely small size makes it appear sparse
  • May look like weeds or bare spots from a distance
  • Too unconventional for typical HOA landscaping standards

Wildlife value

The long blooming period provides nectar for small bees and beetles throughout most of the growing season.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
