Button mangrove is a large native evergreen tree that naturally grows in coastal areas and salt marshes. It develops a broad, rounded canopy and can tolerate salt spray and flooding better than most trees. The small button-like flower clusters appear in summer and develop into cone-shaped seed heads.

In an HOA neighborhood

Button Mangrove is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, street edge, mid zone.

  • Large mature size requires adequate space planning

Wildlife value

The flowers attract bees and flies during the long summer blooming period. Birds often use the dense canopy for nesting and shelter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
