A sprawling native vine that produces small pink to purple pea-like flowers from May through September. This perennial groundcover can spread widely and works well for covering slopes or filling in naturalized areas.

In an HOA neighborhood

Florida Hammock Milkpea takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Vine growth habit appears uncontrolled
  • Can spread aggressively beyond intended areas
  • May look wild or weedy to traditional landscaping standards

Wildlife value

The flowers attract native bees and butterflies throughout the long blooming season. As a member of the legume family, it also helps fix nitrogen in the soil.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
