Mitella trifida is a small native wildflower that forms low mats of heart-shaped leaves close to the ground. It produces delicate white flower spikes in late spring and early summer, creating subtle seasonal interest in shaded garden areas.

In an HOA neighborhood

Pacific Miterwort takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small and inconspicuous appearance may look incomplete
  • Can appear dormant or missing during winter months
  • May be mistaken for weeds by neighbors unfamiliar with native plants

Wildlife value

This plant attracts small native bees and beetles during its blooming period from May through July, providing nectar for pollinators that prefer cooler, shaded conditions.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
