Sandswamp whitetop is a native sedge that forms neat clumps of narrow, upright foliage topped with distinctive white flower clusters from summer into fall. This moisture-loving perennial thrives in wet areas and boggy conditions where many other plants struggle.

In an HOA neighborhood

Sandswamp Whitetop takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Requires consistently wet conditions that are uncommon in typical landscaping
  • Sedge appearance may be unfamiliar to HOA boards
  • Best suited for specialized rain gardens or bog areas

Wildlife value

The white flower heads attract bees and flies during the long blooming season. The seeds provide food for wetland birds and small wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
