Ligusticum filicinum is a compact native perennial with delicate, fern-like foliage that forms neat clumps. It produces small white flowers in umbrella-shaped clusters during summer months and thrives in partial sun with moderate water.

In an HOA neighborhood

Utah Ligusticum takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Foliage may appear too wild or weedy for formal landscapes
  • Unfamiliar appearance may concern HOAs preferring conventional plants
  • Unknown leaf retention creates uncertainty about winter appearance

Wildlife value

The summer blooms attract a diverse range of pollinators including native bees, beetles, and flies. This plant is particularly valuable for supporting smaller beneficial insects that are often overlooked.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
