Woolly goat chicory is a compact native perennial that forms neat rosettes of gray-green fuzzy leaves. It produces bright yellow dandelion-like flowers from late spring through summer, adding cheerful color to dry sunny areas.

In an HOA neighborhood

Woolly Goat Chicory takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Resembles dandelions which HOAs typically prohibit
  • May appear weedy to conventional landscaping standards
  • Common name includes 'chicory' which has weed associations

Wildlife value

The abundant yellow blooms provide nectar for native bees and butterflies throughout the growing season. Seeds also feed small birds and wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
