Arctic gentian is a compact alpine perennial that forms small mounds of foliage topped with striking blue trumpet-shaped flowers. This high-elevation native blooms from mid to late summer and thrives in cooler mountain conditions with good drainage.
In an HOA neighborhood
Arctic Gentian takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.
Works well in: backyard only.
- Extremely small size may appear sparse in formal landscapes
- Alpine specialist may struggle in typical suburban conditions
- Unknown dormancy appearance could look bare or dead
Wildlife value
The vibrant blue flowers attract bees and butterflies during the summer blooming period. Its alpine habitat makes it particularly valuable for supporting high-elevation pollinators.
Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
