Asian nakedwood is a large evergreen shrub that can reach up to 20 feet tall with a spreading habit. It produces small clusters of greenish-white flowers from March through June and thrives in full sun with minimal water once established. This robust plant maintains its foliage year-round and tolerates poor soils and salt spray.

In an HOA neighborhood

Asian Nakedwood takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Grows very large and can appear unruly
  • May be viewed as too wild or informal for front landscapes
  • Fast growth requires frequent pruning to maintain acceptable size

Wildlife value

The spring and early summer blooms attract bees and wasps for pollination. Birds may also utilize the dense branching structure for nesting and shelter.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
