Taraxia subacaulis is a low-growing native wildflower that forms small, compact clumps close to the ground. This drought-tolerant perennial produces delicate blooms from May through July and thrives in full sun with minimal water needs. Its extremely small size makes it suitable for rock gardens or as ground cover in specialized native plant areas.

In an HOA neighborhood

Diffuse-Flower Evening Primrose takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Extremely small size may appear sparse or incomplete
  • Unknown leaf retention creates uncertainty about winter appearance
  • May be mistaken for weeds due to low profile

Wildlife value

This plant supports native bees and beetles during its summer blooming period. Its small flowers provide nectar for smaller pollinators that are important to native ecosystems.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
