Artemisia vulgaris is a tall, aromatic perennial herb with silvery-green foliage and small, inconspicuous flower clusters. This spreading plant can become quite large and has a somewhat wild, informal appearance that may not suit all landscape settings.

In an HOA neighborhood

Felonherb takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Aggressive spreading habit
  • Can look weedy and unkempt
  • May be considered invasive by some

Wildlife value

Provides nectar for bees, beetles, and moths during its summer blooming period. The foliage also serves as host plant for some moth caterpillars.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
