Giant chickweed is a sprawling annual forb that produces small white flowers from May through July. This European native has become naturalized in North America and can spread aggressively in moist conditions.

In an HOA neighborhood

Giant Chickweed takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Has distinctly weedy appearance
  • Non-native species with aggressive spreading habit
  • May be confused with common lawn weeds

Wildlife value

The small white flowers attract bees and beetles during the late spring and summer blooming period.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
