Goober, also known as peanut, is an annual crop plant that grows as a low, spreading herb with small yellow flowers in summer. The plant produces its characteristic nuts underground after the flowers are pollinated. While interesting botanically, it's primarily grown as an agricultural crop rather than an ornamental garden plant.

In an HOA neighborhood

Goober takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

Wildlife value

The summer flowers provide nectar for bees and other small pollinators during the growing season.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
