Large thyme is a low-growing, evergreen perennial herb that forms dense, spreading mats of small, aromatic leaves. It produces clusters of tiny pink or purple flowers from July through September and maintains its foliage year-round. This drought-tolerant groundcover works well in sunny, well-drained areas and releases a pleasant fragrance when brushed against.

In an HOA neighborhood

Large Thyme is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The summer blooms attract bees, butterflies, and beneficial wasps, providing nectar during the peak growing season. The dense mat structure can also offer shelter for small beneficial insects.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
