Leafy spurge is an aggressive invasive perennial that spreads rapidly through underground root systems and can dominate entire areas. It produces small yellow-green flowers from late spring through early fall and contains a milky sap that can cause skin irritation.

In an HOA neighborhood

Leafy Spurge takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

  • Spreads aggressively and is difficult to control
  • May violate local weed ordinances

Wildlife value

While it does attract some bees and beetles, its invasive nature severely damages native plant communities that provide much better wildlife habitat.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
