Calamagrostis rubescens is a native bunchgrass that forms neat, upright clumps with fine-textured foliage. This drought-tolerant perennial produces delicate flower plumes in summer and maintains its evergreen appearance year-round. It's an excellent low-maintenance choice for adding natural texture to landscapes while requiring minimal water once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Pine Grass is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The summer blooms attract bees and beetles, while the seed heads provide food for birds. The dense clumping habit also offers nesting sites and shelter for small wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
