Showy sedge is a clumping grass-like perennial that forms neat, compact tufts of narrow green foliage. It produces attractive seed heads during summer months and provides excellent texture contrast in partially shaded garden areas. This hardy sedge requires moderate watering once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Showy Sedge is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The seed heads provide food for small birds and the dense clumps offer nesting material and shelter for beneficial insects.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
