Slender amaranth is a fast-growing annual herb that produces small, inconspicuous green flower spikes from late spring through fall. This compact plant typically stays under 3 feet tall with a narrow, upright growth habit.

In an HOA neighborhood

Slender Amaranth takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Often considered a weed by conventional standards
  • Self-seeds readily and can spread
  • Very informal appearance doesn't match typical landscaping expectations

Wildlife value

The seeds provide food for small birds and the flowers attract beneficial insects, though it's not a major pollinator plant.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
