Thyme-leaf sandwort is a low-growing annual wildflower that forms small mats of tiny leaves and delicate white flowers. This diminutive plant blooms from May through July and thrives in sunny, dry conditions. It naturally grows in sandy or rocky soils and requires minimal water once established.

In an HOA neighborhood

Thyme-leaf Sandwort takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Very small size makes it appear weedy in formal landscapes
  • Annual nature means it dies back completely each year
  • Can look sparse or patchy in maintained garden beds

Wildlife value

The small white flowers attract native bees and beetles during the summer months. As an annual, it provides seasonal nectar resources for small pollinators.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
