Wild garlic is a native woodland wildflower that produces small white flowers in spring before going dormant by midsummer. This low-growing perennial has narrow, grass-like leaves and forms small clumps that naturalize over time.
In an HOA neighborhood
Burdick'S Wild Leek takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.
Works well in: backyard only.
- Very small size makes it nearly invisible in formal landscapes
- Goes completely dormant by midsummer leaving bare spots
- Grass-like appearance when not blooming may look like weeds
Wildlife value
The spring flowers attract native bees and beetles when few other blooms are available. The early nectar source is particularly valuable for emerging pollinators.
Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
