Rocketsalad is an edible annual herb that produces small white flowers from late winter through early summer. This Mediterranean plant grows as a compact rosette with deeply lobed leaves and can self-seed readily in favorable conditions.

In an HOA neighborhood

Rocketsalad takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: moderate. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Appears weedy and unkempt to most observers
  • Self-seeds aggressively and can spread beyond intended areas
  • Dies back completely as an annual leaving bare spots

Wildlife value

The small white flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects during its extended bloom period from February through June.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
