Allium brevistylum is a compact native onion that produces clusters of pink to purple flowers on short stems in early summer. This low-growing perennial forms small clumps and requires minimal water once established, making it well-suited for xeriscape gardens.

In an HOA neighborhood

Shortstyle Onion is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 3 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

  • May appear sparse or dormant outside blooming season
  • Onion-family foliage can look untidy as it dies back

Wildlife value

The flowers attract bees and butterflies during the June and July bloom period. As a native allium, it provides nectar for pollinators when many other plants may be stressed by summer heat.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
