Starwort is a low-growing annual herb that forms small mounds of narrow, light green leaves. It produces tiny white, star-shaped flowers throughout the summer months and thrives in partially shaded areas with moderate moisture.

In an HOA neighborhood

Starwort takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Commonly considered a weedy species
  • May spread unpredictably as an annual
  • Very informal appearance doesn't match typical landscaping expectations

Wildlife value

The small flowers attract bees and beetles during its summer blooming period. As an annual, it provides seasonal nectar sources for small pollinators.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
