Wild tantan is a perennial that produces delicate white puffball flowers from summer through fall. This drought-tolerant plant forms a neat, compact mound and goes dormant in winter, returning each spring with fresh green foliage.

In an HOA neighborhood

Wild Tantan takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: low. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.

Works well in: backyard only.

  • Name includes 'wild' which signals informal appearance
  • Goes completely dormant in winter leaving bare ground
  • May be perceived as weedy due to fine foliage texture

Wildlife value

The abundant summer blooms attract native bees and beneficial beetles. This plant provides important nectar during the hot summer months when many other flowers have faded.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
