A native vine that produces small white flowers in late spring and summer, followed by edible berries. This spreading groundcover works well for naturalizing slopes and woodland edges with its arching canes and seasonal interest.
In an HOA neighborhood
Green Mountain Blackberry takes more care to keep looking intentional in a front yard. Maintenance level: high. Consider it for backyard or mid-zone beds rather than the street edge.
Works well in: backyard only.
- Spreads aggressively and can appear uncontrolled
- Thorny canes may be considered a safety hazard
- Can look messy and wild especially when dormant
Wildlife value
The flowers attract bees and beetles during the long blooming season from May through July. Birds and small mammals enjoy the berries, while the dense growth provides nesting sites and cover.
Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
