Pine violet is a charming native perennial wildflower growing 2-8 inches tall with delicate yellow blooms. It thrives in partly shaded areas with low water requirements, making it suitable for woodland garden settings or under trees. This compact plant adds a touch of natural color in spring without becoming invasive.

In an HOA neighborhood

Pine Violet is an HOA-friendly choice in the right placement. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 3 out of 5.

Works well in: backyard only, mid zone, foundation.

  • Small stature might make it appear unintentional in formal settings
  • Goes dormant after spring bloom
  • May appear sparse if not planted in groups

Wildlife value

Pine violet supports native bee populations and attracts beneficial beetles as pollinators. The early spring blooms provide important nectar sources when many other plants are not yet flowering.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
