Resin birch is a compact native shrub that forms dense, rounded clumps with small, glossy leaves that turn golden yellow in fall. This cold-hardy species produces small catkins in late spring and early summer, adding seasonal interest to the landscape. It works well as a low-maintenance foundation planting or natural hedge.

In an HOA neighborhood

Resin Birch is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

The flowers provide nectar and pollen for bees during late spring bloom period. Small birds may feed on the seeds, and the dense branching structure offers nesting sites for wildlife.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
