Festuca kingii is a fine-textured native bunchgrass that forms compact, tidy clumps with blue-green foliage. This drought-tolerant grass maintains its evergreen appearance year-round and requires minimal maintenance once established. It works well as an accent plant or in mass plantings for texture and movement.

In an HOA neighborhood

Spike Fescue is an HOA-friendly choice. Maintenance level: low. Tidiness: 4 out of 5.

Works well in: front yard, foundation, street edge, mid zone.

Wildlife value

This native grass provides nesting material and seeds for birds, particularly finches and sparrows. The dense clumps offer shelter for small wildlife and beneficial insects.

Native range data from the USDA PLANTS Database and regional native plant society lists. Pollinator and host plant associations compiled from GBIF, iNaturalist, and published ecological literature.
